Thrown over my shoulder, I carry a sack.
My sack is heavy.
For it holds everything.
In every color and every shade.
I come in red.
And blue.
Violet with green stripes.
I carry the me my friends see.
And the me I put on for my loving family.
And the me strangers glimpse in the park.
I tell people this, and they are surprised.
Or saddened.
Or appalled.
But I just adjust my masks nonetheless.
Because they don't know that it's all for them.
But I do.
And I come back to you.
After all the others retire.
It's late.
But not too late.
And I remove one mask.
